Stefanos Tsitsipas recently revisited a hilarious interaction with Rafael Nadal at the Laver Cup. This comes days after the Spaniard withdrew from the 2024 Laver Cup, which is scheduled to be held from September 20 to September 22.

Tsitsipas is one of the six confirmed members of Team Europe at the Laver Cup. Others include Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, and Grigor Dimitrov. Swedish great Bjorn Borg will take the helm as the captain.

Recently, the Greek looked back on a hilarious incident involving Nadal and Roger Federer at the 2019 Laver Cup. The Spaniard and Tsitsipas were engaged in confusion regarding finger gestures during their doubles match.

Nadal chuckled as he said the duo needed to be clearer about the hand gestures.

“Just we need to be a little more clear with the finger,” the Spaniard said, laughing.

Tsitsipas was confused and inquired,

“Because they’re watching?”

The King of Clay explained,

“I didn’t understand where you go,” he said.

Federer chimed in, saying:

“Just what was there, just what is the segment.”

The 22-time Grand Slam champion then discussed the hand gestures with Tsitsipas.

“I didn’t like this, like this (hand gestures) you stay in the same place, you go to your place, and any finger, you cross,” he said.

Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the 2024 Laver Cup. The Spanish tennis legend explained in a heartfelt message that he was prioritizing the team’s best interests by stepping aside.

“I’m really disappointed to share that I won’t be able to compete at the Laver Cup in Berlin next week. This is a team competition and to really support Team Europe, I need to do what’s best for them and at this moment there are other players who can help the team deliver the win,” he said.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion recalled his memories from previous editions of the Laver Cup. He also wished his teammates and captain Borg his best for the competition.

“I have so many great, emotional memories from playing Laver Cup and I was really looking forward to being with my teammates and with Bjorn in his final year as Captain. I wish Team Europe the very best of luck and will be cheering them on from afar,” he added.

Laver Cup is an indoor hard-court tournament where players compete under Team World and Team Europe. The current edition is set to take place in Berlin, Germany.
