Novak Djokovic recently laid bare how he was broadening his fashion horizons with some help from his wife Jelena and others close to him. The Serb’s admission came after his pictures from a recent photoshoot in China, wearing a green tracksuit, went viral.
Djokovic is currently in Shanghai preparing for this year’s edition of the Rolex Shanghai Masters, the prestigious tournament he has won a record four times 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018). The former World No. 1, though, is heading into his Rolex Shanghai Masters campaign after a disappointing 2024 season as he has failed to win an ATP Tour-level title.
Despite his topsy-turvy form, the Serb appeared in high spirits wearing a green Lacoste tracksuit recently as he explored various historic and cultural landmarks of China. Djokovic shared the moments via an Instagram post, captioning it:
“Chinese dreams in Lacoste greens.”
The post didn’t take much time to go viral and has so far amassed over half a million likes.
Recently, in a pre-tournament interview with Tennis TV ahead of his Rolex Shanghai Masters campaign, the 24-time Major winner spoke up about his choice to sport Lacoste’s green tracksuit. Djokovic revealed that his wife and others close to him have advised him to go beyond his usual fashion sensibilities, which have mostly been conservative.
“I’m receiving some help now from of course my wife and also some friends and people that are in fashion, I’m getting some advice and I’m starting to expand on what I can wear and what I wasn’t wearing for a long time and I started to like it a little bit more. I paid more attention to it. I wasn’t really caring as much for fashion in the past off the court,” Djokovic said (at 0:31).
The former World No. 1 went on to share how his memories from the 90s also inspired him to think out of the box in terms of fashion.
“It was more kind of conservative type of jeans or chinos and polo and that was kind of my vibe for a long time but now I’m stepping out of the box a little bit. The green tracksuit, that was a good one. It brought back the 90s. I’m a kid of the 90s and I remember those days, the music and how everybody, music artists, how they were dressing up and just like tucking those tracksuits in and tracksuit was the big deal and I just kind of felt like that,” Djokovic added.
On the tennis front, the Serb is waiting to find out who he will face in his first match at this year’s Rolex Shanghai Masters.
Novak Djokovic set to face either Alex Michelsen or Bu Yunchaokete in Rolex Shanghai Masters opener
Novak Djokovic will kickstart his 2024 Rolex Shanghai Masters campaign against either Alex Michelsen or Bu Yunchaokete in the second round. The Serb, seeded No. 4 at the prestigious ATP Masters 1000 event and having received a first-round bye, has never faced either of the two youngsters before.
The four-time Rolex Shanghai Masters champion would be particularly wary of Bu Yunchaokete if the Chinese prodigy beats Michelsen in their first-round encounter. The 22-year-old made quite an impression at the China Open, reaching the semifinals of the ATP 500 tournament before being ousted by eventual runner-up Jannik Sinner.
If the Serb does come out on top in his opening encounter in Shanghai, he will go on to face either fellow veteran Stan Wawrinka or youngster Flavio Cobolli in the third round.
