Tom Ince grabbed a late consolation to give the Premier League champion’s a scare – but they held onto victory.
Foden was tasked with leading the line for City and he was involved in an animated conversation after the final whistle with Guardiola.

It is not the first time the Spaniard has done so having given Erling Haaland an earful last season before half-time at Burnley.
Midfielder Rodri sustained a significant knee injury during the 2-2 draw with Arsenal, giving City a huge dilemma.
Guardiola would have to find a substitute, meaning he might not play again until the end of the current campaign.
Nunes had a disappointing 13 months after leaving Wolves for £53 million, but he was given a chance to play in the match against Watford.
And after Nunes grabbed a goal, Guardiola said: “He has special qualities few players have, unique.
“With space in transition he’s unbelievable. I’m pleased for him and the goal. Still he has things to read and it’s not easy to adapt.
“I’m really pleased for him, he’s a lovely guy and lovely guys always deserves good things.”
