As we move towards the business end of the tournament, Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Taylor Fritz, and other top players will look to capture the Davis Cup crown for their respective sides. With the league matches out of the way, the stakes will be even higher going forward.
Eight teams will compete in the quarterfinal stage of the Davis Cup, which begins on November 19 at the Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga, Spain.
The teams have already released the team rosters, and there are a few big names that stand out. Here, we take a detailed look at all eight teams set to compete in the remaining matches.
Argentina
Sebastian Baez will spearhead the Argentinian team at the Davis Cup. Francisco Cerundolo and Tomas Martin Etcheverry will bolster the lineup, while Maximo Gonzalez, Andres Molteni, and captain Guillermo Coria round out the team.
Australia
The trio of Alexei Popyrin, Jordan Thompson, and Thanasi Kokkinakis will be the main singles players for the Australian side. All three have posted big results in the past and will be keen on helping the team recapture the crown that it last won in 2003.
Max Purcell and doubles specialist Matthew Ebden will also be a part of the team, which is being captained by former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt.
Canada
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov are the two standout names in Canada’s Davis Cup team, which looks pretty solid on paper. Gabriel Diallo, Alexis Galarneau, and the seasoned Vasek Pospisil have also found a spot on the team which will be led by Frank Dancevic.
Germany
In the absence of Alexander Zverev, the leadership duties for Germany’s Davis Cup team will fall on the shoulders of Jan-Lennard Struff and captain Michael Kohlmann. The team also comprises Yannick Hanfmann, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz.
Defending Davis Cup champions Italy
Jannik Sinner starred in Italy’s 2023 Davis Cup victory and the World No. 1 will be expected to do a lot of the heavy lifting once again as the team looks to successfully defend its crown.
Sinner will be ably supported by Lorenzo Musetti, Flavio Cobolli, Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli. Filippo Volandri will serve as the captain for the defending champions.
The Netherlands
Tallon Griekspoor and Botic Van de Zandschulp will be on singles duty for most of the Davis Cup for The Netherlands. Jesper De Jong and doubles maverick Wesley Koolhof add heft to the squad which will be led by Paul Haarhuis.
Spain
The Davis Cup’s most star-studded lineup will feature Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal leading the Spanish team. The duo have also paired up for doubles this year and if they play at their best, they will be hard to stop
The Spanish team’s depth is further enhanced by the presence of Roberto Bautista Agut and Pablo Carreno Busta in singles, while Marcel Granollers and captain David Ferrer provide valuable experience to navigate the unique competition format.
USA
Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul, the unexpected Olympic gold medalists in doubles at Paris, will be the focal point once again as the United States seeks to extend its record with a 33rd Davis Cup championship.
Ben Shelton adds further firepower to the American team, as do doubles experts Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram. The team will be captained by Bob Bryan.
