Carlos Alcaraz was showered in champagne by Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, and other members of Team Europe after his outstanding performance led them to win the 2024 Laver Cup. This marked Team Europe’s fifth Laver Cup title, with their previous win in 2021 at the TD Garden in Boston, United States.

This year, Team World featured players such as Thanasi Kokkinakis, Ben Shelton, Alejandro Tabilo, Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz, and Francisco Cerúndolo and was captained by John McEnroe. On the other hand, Team Europe, captained by Bjorn Borg, included players like Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, Grigor Dimitrov, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Flavio Cobolli, and Jan-Lennard Struff.

Carlos Alcaraz, who was making his Laver Cup debut, played a crucial role in securing the title for his team. He kicked off his campaign by teaming up with Alexander Zverev in a doubles match on the opening day, which unfortunately ended in a loss to Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton with a score of 6-7(5), 4-6.

The following day, Alcaraz faced Ben Shelton in a singles match and emerged victorious with a score of 6–4, 6–4. On the final day, Alcaraz continued his impressive performance by partnering with Casper Ruud to defeat Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton with a score of 6–2, 7–6(6). He then overcame Taylor Fritz 6-2, 7-5 in the last singles match of the tournament to secure the title for Team Europe.

After his match against Fritz, Carlos Alcaraz was drenched in champagne in the locker room by Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev to celebrate his contribution to Team Europe’s title victory.

Carlos Alcaraz on winning Laver Cup 2024: “It’s great, very very happy”

At the post-match on-court interview, following his win over Taylor Fritz on the final day of the 2024 Laver Cup, Carlos Alcaraz stated that winning the tournament was “great” and that he and the team were “very happy.”

“It’s great. Obviously we came here with a goal, to win the Laver Cup. We are very, very happy about reaching our goal. We almost lost, but Sascha came with really good tennis and gave me the chance to win.” Alcaraz said.

Looking ahead, Carlos Alcaraz will next compete at the 2024 China Open in Beijing. The tournament is scheduled to commence on September 26 and conclude on October 2, 2024.

The ATP 500 hard court tournament will also feature players like defending champion Jannik Sinner, who won the title last year by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final, Alexander Zverev, Medvedev, and Grigor Dimitrov, among others.
