‘I’d be lying if I said…’ – Dominik Szoboszlai discusses his life off the field at Liverpool

While Dominik Szoboszlai’s electrifying performances during his initial months at Liverpool suggest that he has seamlessly adjusted to life on Merseyside, the reality is that we only see a fraction of his experience—his time on the pitch—while his off-field struggles remain largely unseen.

The 23-year-old has been candid about his personal challenges in an interview with journalist Mark Soos for Fodball.

In a translated quote shared by Bence Bocsak on X, Szoboszlai revealed that he sometimes feels ‘lonely’ since moving to England. He confessed, “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel lonely at times.

There are days when I just sit on the couch, unsure of what to do. I end up watching a movie and trying to fall asleep, hoping that tomorrow will be better.”

It’s easy to view top-level footballers as untouchable figures who, due to their substantial earnings, should simply be grateful and seamlessly handle their careers.

However, the athletes we cheer for each week are human, experiencing both highs and lows, and their outward confidence and exuberance may mask personal struggles.

Dominik Szoboszlai, at just 23 years old, is still adjusting to life in England, dealing with cultural and language changes despite his excellent English, and living up to the expectations that come with a £60m transfer to one of the world’s most prominent clubs.
