Brazil defeats Peru 4-0 thanks to a pair of penalties from Raphinha.

In South American World Cup qualifying on Tuesday, Raphinha scored a penalty in either half to lead a rejuvenated Brazil to a 4-0 victory over Peru at home.

Brazil appeared more energetic early on and controlled possession, building on their 2-1 comeback victory in Chile last week. Goals late in the game from Andreas Pereira and Luiz Henrique further enhanced their strong showing.

Brazil is currently fourth in the standings with 16 points after 10 games, behind third-place Uruguay on goal differential. Prior to their victory in Chile on Thursday, Brazil had lost four of their previous five qualifying matches.

Raphinha told Brazilian broadcaster Globo, “I think we needed this, it was really important winning both games to get back on track.”

“We were able to maintain control of both of those games. We’re not there yet, but I think we’re headed in the right direction.”

when missing the crossbar in the 24th minute, Raphinha’s penalty in the 38th minute gave the home team the lead when Carlos Zambrano, a defender for Peru, was called for a handball.

After Zambrano had fouled Savinho in the box, the Barcelona attacker increased Brazil’s lead with a penalty in the 54th minute.

The triumph was secured two minutes later by a low drive from the edge of the box by substitute Pereira, who scored Brazil’s third goal with an incredible volley in the 72nd minute after Luiz Henrique’s cross was expertly finished.

Argentina defeated Bolivia 6-0 to take first place in the standings with 22 points, three points ahead of Colombia, who crushed Chile, the team in lowest place, 4-0.

Colombia took the lead in the 34th minute through a deflected header from Davinson Sanchez, and early in the second half, Luis Diaz increased the lead with a simple finish into an empty net following a poor defensive play by the opposition.

Chile lost in qualifying for the fifth time in a row as Jhon Duran and Luis Sinisterra sealed the victory.

Having defeated Venezuela 2-1, Paraguay now sits sixth with 13 points, one point clear of Bolivia in seventh position and level with fifth-place Ecuador. A spot in the 2026 North American championships is assured for the top six teams.
