LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle’s podcast ‘Archetypes’ made waves when it launched, quickly rising to the top of the charts with its insightful exploration of the harmful labels often placed on women. To unpack these complex issues, the Duchess of Sussex extended an invitation to pop icon Taylor Swift, hoping to engage her in a meaningful conversation about the challenges women face.
However, despite Meghan’s efforts, Swift “respectfully declined” the invitation to appear on the podcast even after receiving a “personal letter” from Meghan herself, The Mirror US reported.
Meghan Markle’s personal letter to Taylor Swift
Meghan Markle’s attempts to collaborate with Taylor Swift were met with a firm “no.” Reports indicate that Meghan reached out to the pop icon in 2023, sending her a “personal letter” in hopes of featuring the singer on her podcast, ‘Archetypes’. However, Swift ultimately declined the invitation through her representative, according to the news outlet.
Meghan’s ‘Archetypes’ podcast, which aired for one season on Spotify, featured a lineup of high-profile guests such as Serena Williams, Paris Hilton, and Jameela Jamil.
Despite its initial popularity, the show faced controversy after Meghan and Prince Harry were reportedly dropped from Spotify. An insider claimed that a Spotify executive labeled the couple as “f****** grifters,” creating a stir in the media.
Following the tumultuous exit from Spotify, Meghan has shifted her focus to a new partnership with Lemonada Media. She is gearing up to launch a new podcast series next year, alongside a re-release of ‘Archetypes’, to make the content more widely available.
Earlier this year, she expressed her excitement about joining the Lemonada team, stating, “Being able to support a female-founded company with a roster of thought-provoking and highly entertaining podcasts is a fantastic way to kick off 2024.”
Meghan is eager to share her upcoming projects and continue her journey in podcasting.
Taylor Swift declined royal invitations earlier too
This isn’t the first time Taylor Swift has turned down an invitation from the royal family. As revealed in Omid Scobie’s book ‘Endgame’, Swift was also asked to perform at King Charles’ coronation concert in May 2023. The singer, however, had to decline due to the commitments of her record-breaking ‘Eras Tour’.
Despite missing the coronation, Swift seemed to maintain a good relationship with the royals. When her tour brought her to the United Kingdom, Prince William and his children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, attended her sold-out concert at Wembley Stadium in June to celebrate William’s 42nd birthday.
Swift later shared pictures from the event on her social media, wishing the future king a happy birthday.
Prince William wasn’t the only royal in attendance at Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ performance in Wembley. His cousin Zara Tindall and her husband Mike Tindall were also present, making the concert a night to remember for the British royals
