Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, 26, is facing difficult decisions about his future in football after suffering another concussion. During Thursday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills, Tagovailoa was injured while scrambling for a first down and barreled into Damar Hamlin.

This latest concussion adds to a concerning history of head injuries for the young quarterback.

While many, including Raiders Coach Antonio Pierce, are urging Tagovailoa to prioritize his long-term health and retire, the quarterback seems determined to return to the field. He has already consulted with concussion specialists and is focused on his recovery.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Miami Dolphins quarterback has already seen concussion specialists and has made the decision to return to the field.

“Tua Tagovailoa has no plans to retire, sources say. He’s already begun seeing concussion specialists and will continue to do so, but there is no timeline to return.

Tua will be back when he and his doctors deem him healthy and ready,” he reported.

Despite his son’s wishes, Tagovailoa’s mother, Diane, is reportedly advocating for his retirement.

Tagovailoa’s commitment to his recovery is evident, but there’s no set timeline for his return. He’s coming off a 2022 season where he played in 18 games after diligently working to prevent further concussions following two head injuries in the 2021 season.

However, this latest setback in 2024 raises serious questions about the long-term risks associated with continuing his football career.
