FRISCO – Our Dallas Cowboys at Pittsburgh Steelers Notebook: All the news, notes & quotes on Dak Prescott, Jerry Jones and “America’s Team” from The Star in NFL Week
OCT 5 CEEDEE GUN SIGN? CeeDee Lamb has been fined $11,255 for taunting and $14,069 for what the NFL has deemed a unsportsmanlike conduct/violent gesture after a play. … and both decisions to us seem ifffy.
Lamb – who was fined $22,511 for unnecessary roughness in Week 3 – in the Week 4 win over the Giants at one point caught a pass and while sitting down, seemed to gesture that he’d achieved a first down. Or … that he was pantomiming a gun shot?
You be the judge …
OCT 3 MCCARTHY SAYS … Coach Mike McCarthy’s Thursday press briefing here inside The Star before practice featured a handful of key points for the day. To wit …
– “Impressive” is the word the coach used to describe Justin Fields, the athletic Steelers QB … and McCarthy insisted that contrary to the opinion of many, Fields is more than just a runner.
– ‘Old-style” it’s the compliment that he gave to coach Mike Tomlin’s Pittsburgh defense … reflecting on their traditional approach to fundamentals.
– Rookie Caelen Carson (shoulder) is Dallas’ top injury question of the week.
“He needs to make a big step today,” the coach said.
OCT 2 INJURY REPORT The Wednesday practice report for the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers features starting corner Caelen Carson (shoulder) – who sat out last weeks win at the Giants – being upgraded to “limited” in this first practice of the week.
Young star corner DaRon Bland is eligible to come off IR this week, and while that seems unlikely, he did work the cords on the sideline with trainers here inside The Star.
No Micah Parsons (ankle), of course … and Demarcus Lawrence (foot) does not appear on the list because he is not presently on the 53-man roster having been moved to IR.
Also notable is the absence from practice and from this list of running back to Dalvin Cook. he missed today due to an illness… But doesn’t appear on the injury report because he is not on the 53.
Notable DNP’s for Pittsburgh include Nick Herbig, Jaylen Warren and Cordarrelle Patterson.
OCT 1 DE SIGNED The Cowboys are signing pass-rusher K.J. Henry while poaching him off the Bengals practice squad..
Amid national media reports that misled Cowboys Nation into thinking the team would “explore outside options” of name players to help while Micah Parsons and Demarcus Lawrence are hurt … this level of move was always the reality.
Henry had 1.5 sacks last year for Washington as a fifth-round rookie. He’s 6-5 and 255 and by rule will join the 53-man roster.
SEPT 29 TANK UPDATE DeMarcus Lawrence is reportedly dealing with a Lisfranc injury to his right foot as the result of an issue that developed late in Thursday’s win at the Giants.
Lawrence – who has experienced foot injuries before – did not have any bones displaced, so ESPN reports that he will not require surgery.
But as CowboysCountry.com has noted, Tank is heading to injured reserve as (per ESPN) this could be an eight-week recovery time.
SEPT 19 CROTCH GRAB Saints QB Derek Carr had been fined $14,000 for his TD celebration while drubbing the Cowboys 44-19 on NFL Week 2 Sunday.
Alvin Kamara was the “Thriller” in this game, with his four touchdowns. But Carr continued his fine play as he threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Dallas while also added a rushing touchdown.
And it was after scoring that rushing touchdown when Carr broke out into a Michael Jackson impersonation. … complete with “Wacko Jacko’s” trademark crotch grab.
Carr was handed a $14,000 fine for his celebration … making him a “Smooth Criminal” in the eyes of the NFL.
