The Kansas City Chiefs could reportedly capitalize on the apparent fallout between the Green Bay Packers and Romeo Doubs to bolster their injury-ravaged offense.
Patrick Mahomes lost two of his top offensive weapons less than a month into the 2024 NFL season following serious injuries to Isiah Pacheco and Rashee Rice. The defending Super Bowl champs have reunited with Kareem Hunt since Pacheco broke his leg in the Week 2 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
But the Chiefs are yet to add to their receiving corp after Rice hurt his knee in a collision with Mahomes. Kansas City was quickly told it would not be a serious player in the Davante Adams sweepstakes following the Las Vegas Raiders star wideout’s recent trade request.
There’s another disgruntled NFL wideout who could fill in for Rice, though. After being suspended for skipping back-to-back practice sessions, Doubs will be a prime candidate to alleviate Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s headache caused by the flurry of injuries, according to CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan.
“You had to see this coming, right?” Sullivan wrote on Saturday. “Whenever a player of Doubs’ caliber or higher could be on the market, it won’t be long before the Chiefs are mentioned as a possible landing spot.
“The club certainly could use another pass catcher in the aftermath of wideout Rashee Rice suffering a knee injury that has now landed him on injured reserve and possibly could sideline him for the entire season. Doubs could quickly become a top target for Patrick Mahomes in a wide receiver room that currently is headlined by rookie Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, and JuJu Smith-Schuster.”

Doubs put up 169 receiving yards on 12 catches through the first four weeks of the 2024 campaign. Frustrated with his role, he was a no-show at Green Bay’s practice facility on Thursday and Friday, prompting the Packers to check in on the wideout due to “worries” over his well-being.
As it turned out the former fourth-round pick went on a strike, the team for Sunday’s matchup with the Los Angeles Rams. “Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult decision to suspend Romeo for this week’s game,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said.
“His decisions and actions during the week negatively impacted the team and required us to take this action. While we are certainly disappointed, we are confident that we will be able to move forward in a positive manner.
”Romeo is a valuable member of our team and we look forward to welcoming him back next week.” Doubs finished the 2024 regular season with 59 receptions, 674 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs are off to a great start despite their injury woes. They approach the Monday Night Football clash against the New Orleans Saints in Week 5 with a 4-0 record.
