Patrick Mahomes hasn’t had the best of starts to the 2024 NFL season, but that doesn’t mean the Kansas City Chiefs star has lost any standing within the football community.
The Chiefs are currently 4-0 despite what has been a sluggish season for Mahomes, who has thrown six touchdowns, but also five interceptions, to go along with 904 yards.
Nevertheless, Mahomes remains a key figure in the NFL world, with the now retired Peyton Manning heaping praise on the 29-year-old.
Manning holds plenty of NFL records thanks to his illustrious playing days, and he expects Mahomes to break many of them whenever he wants.
“I feel like all my records are gonna be broken,” Manning stated on ‘Up & Adams’.
“I think Mahomes is just kind of picking this year-he wants to break it. He’s like, ‘I’m going to break Manning’s record this year.’ I only get that in the reception record that I set as a rookie off my resume-that would happen… but I’m good with it.”
Manning impressed by Mahomes’ calm demeanour
While Manning was joking when discussing Mahomes’ record-breaking performances, he heaped praise on the three-time Super Bowl champion over his best quality – keeping calm under pressure.
“He’s just as calm in the fourth quarter when losing in the Super Bowl as he is in the preseason,” Manning told People at the premier of the ‘Receiver’ docuseries.
“When you’re calm in those moments, it sure does serve you well, and we’ve just seen it over and over again. Don’t ever think a two-touchdown lead’s safe in the fourth quarter with him.”
Manning is like most fans and pundits who remain in awe of Mahomes’ resume so far. With three Super Bowl rings and MVPs to his name, he has already had one of the more remarkable NFL careers to date, and time will tell how much more he has to offer.
