Since Davante Adams expressed his interest in departing from Las Vegas, the Dallas Cowboys have wasted no time in making a move to get him. Dianna Russini of The Athletic wrote that the New York Jets and the Cowboys were among the teams closely monitoring the wideout’s situation.

However, shortly after the Forth Worth Star-Telegram‘s Clarence Hill Jr. reported that Dallas has shown “no interest” in pursuing Davante Adams directly conflicting Russini’s report. This led to the media approaching head coach Mike McCarthy in hopes of seeking a direct answer from him.

Unsurprisingly, McCarthy opted to give a diplomatic response. The head coach gave a response that would not get him in direct trouble with the NFL for possible tampering violations.

Player acquisition is something that always goes on. And I’ve never gotten in the habit of talking about players on other teams because I don’t know if anything good that comes out of that.

Mike McCarthy told the reporters

Besides, player acquisition falls under the ambit of Jerry Jones. Mike McCarthy does not wield much power to make this call by himself. But this did not stop him from expressing his admiration for his former player.

McCarthy knows his work ethic and the skill he brings to a team.

Personally, I have tremendous love and respect for Davante. I got a chance to see him up there in Vegas (for the Cowboys vs. Raiders preseason game). Don’t really know exactly what’s going on there. But we do feel very confident with our receiver room.

Mike McCarthy added

The head coach would love to entertain the thought of bringing Adams on board but at the same time, is uncertain of how the Raiders intend to handle this situation.

Besides, Mike McCarthy has faith in his current wide receiver room comprising CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks, and KaVontae Turpin. The Cowboys would be a great destination for Adams but it is unlikely that he will land up there. This is because Jerry Jones would not be reluctant to shell out $13.5 million and a few draft picks in the middle of the season.

It would be a great deal but the likelihood of it going through is minimal. Besides, Davante Adams would be more interested to play alongside quarterbacks he has prior experience alongside such as Aaron Rodgers or Derek Carr. This would make the New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints the frontrunners to bring him on board.

The Jets are likely to have an upper hand in this scenario as the team has over $16 million in cap space and the draft picks to make this trade happen. Dallas has had a rough start to the season with a 2-2 record. With the seventh-highest cap space in the NFL at $25 million, they can make things happen. If Adams lands up in Dallas, it would make their offense a legitimate threat.
