LeBron James and Bronny James inch closer to playing their first regular season game as a father-and-son duo. Bronny was selected 55th overall by the Lakers but ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reported an intriguing detail from draft night. According to her sources, the Warriors were interested in Bronny James but ultimately decided not to go against LeBron’s wishes.
In Shelburne’s report, the NBA insider highlighted that the Warriors considered drafting the young James to lure LeBron James to join the team. He played one season with the USC Trojans before he declared for the draft.
“The Warriors liked Bronny’s skill set and had him on their draft board, sources said,” Shelburne said. “Selecting him ahead of the Lakers, who held the 55th pick, would’ve been a shrewd move — perhaps even to entice James to sign there as a free agent. But ultimately, sources said, the Warriors opted to respect the wishes James had made clear.”
Now with the Lakers, LeBron James’ son is expected to be a development player. He will play in a few regular-season games as well as the G-league. Coach JJ Redick discussed this on “The Lowe Podcast.”
He showed tremendous defensive strides in his summer league outings, a great sign for the team despite their struggles at the offensive end. The team isn’t focused on rushing Bronny’s process to being a high-caliber player, as they are aware of the promising upside to his game.
LeBron James talked about the satisfying feeling of having his son alongside him on an NBA team
LeBron James is no stranger to making history throughout his illustrious NBA career. His latest accolade involves the arrival of his son in the professional league. Not many can say they played with their son for the same team.
During the Lakers’ annual Media Day, James talked about the incredible feeling of his son growing up from being a child to wearing a Lakers uniform.
“Pure joy man,” James said. “I don’t have any words. I can speak about me when it comes to him. I’m just a loss for words. Just super proud of him to get to this point. He’s a man and he’s ready to go.”
Despite all the doubters and the critics who weren’t too fond of Bronny James’ skill set, he remains determined to prove all of them wrong.
