Remember that feeling, Dolphins fans? That sinking feeling as you watch your team struggle, week after week, with seemingly no answers in sight?
Yeah, we’ve all been there. And for Dolphins faithful, it’s been a particularly rough ride since that Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills.
The past two losses have been tough to stomach, but that Monday Night Football beatdown by the Tennessee Titans? That felt like rock bottom.
A lot of the blame has been placed squarely on the shoulders of head coach Mike McDaniel, and for good reason. The man’s been criticized for his lack of preparation, execution, adjustments, and accountability – and let’s be honest, he’s failed in each of those categories ever since Tua Tagovailoa went down.
McDaniel’s Missteps
Look, I’m not saying the guy’s a bad coach, but something’s gotta give. You can’t have a running game averaging 4.7 yards per carry and barely use it.
You can’t have speedsters like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle on the outside and struggle to make big plays. And you definitely can’t watch the same issues plague your team week after week without making the necessary adjustments.
McDaniel didn’t alter his game plan based on quarterback availability.
That’s the cold, hard truth. Look, injuries are part of the game, but good coaches adapt.
They find ways to win, even with their backup quarterback under center. McDaniel’s response?
More of the same. And that’s simply not gonna cut it in this league.
The Dolphins have a talented roster, but talent can only take you so far without a solid game plan and a coach who can make adjustments on the fly.
McDaniel is giving vague answers on how he has to be better, but it’s time for him to actually change things up. His words won’t matter if we don’t see changes.
Preach! We need to see action, not empty promises.
Dolphins fans deserve better than this. We’ve seen this movie before, and it doesn’t end well.
Dolphins fans can remember the stubbornness of a former coach (cough cough Brian Flores) and the outcome that led to. Let’s hope history doesn’t repeat itself.
Weaver’s Emergence
Ready for the plot twist? While the offense has been stuck in neutral, the defense has been quietly putting together some impressive performances.
And the mastermind behind this defensive resurgence? None other than defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
One of the things that the Miami Dolphins got right this offseason was hiring Weaver.
This guy’s been a breath of fresh air on the sidelines. Remember those abysmal defensive performances in the first half of games?
Yeah, Weaver clearly remembers them too. This defense completely shut down the Jaguars in the second half of Week 1.
They held the Bills to a measly seven points in the second half of Week 2. And even in the loss against the Seattle Seahawks, they only gave up seven points in the second half.
That’s not a coincidence, folks. That’s Weaver making adjustments and putting his players in a position to succeed.
Weaver looked at his initial game plan and noticed that adjustments were needed to help this team.
And the best part? He’s not afraid to get aggressive.
We’re not talking about minor tweaks here. Weaver’s making wholesale changes, and they’re paying off.
The best part of this is that Weaver isn’t taking this sitting down, his counterpunch is vicious, and opposing teams are struggling to figure it out.
The Future of the Dolphins
So, where do the Dolphins go from here? The offense needs a serious jolt, and fast. And if McDaniel continues down this path of stubbornness, well, let’s just say Dolphins fans have seen this movie before, and it doesn’t have a happy ending.
But there’s a glimmer of hope amidst the wreckage. A silver lining, if you will. And that silver lining is named Anthony Weaver.
If McDaniel continues his stubbornness, history tends to repeat itself, but the good news in all of this is that their replacement coach might already be on the sideline in Weaver.
