The 49ers will start their practice week missing two key players, with both George Kittle and Fred Warner kept off the field for now.
San Francisco 49ers coach announced that both 49ers’ captains will not practice Wednesday. Both men are dealing with lingering injuries from Week 4’s win over the New England Patriots. Additionally, both Kittle and Warner are seen as day-to-day at this time.
But for now, those two are worth monitoring heading into Week 5.
Kittle made his return hamstring tightness in Week 4, missing Week 3. While he made it through the contest alright, a minor injury to the midsection is enough to keep him on ice Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Warner is dealing with a ankle injury that kept him on the sideline for the second half Sunday. The BYU product was having a standout performance, headlined by a 45-yard pick-six interception at the beginning of the second quarter.
While tests have come back clean for both Kittle and Warner, their Week 5 availability is in question for the time being.
49ers open practice window for Davis, not for Pearsall
Shanahan also announced that the practice window for defensive tackle Kalia Davis has been opened to come off injured reserve. Davis now has 21 days to be activated, otherwise he will remain out for the duration of the 2024 season. The UCF alum has been recovering from a knee issue stemming from the preseason, and is expected to serve as a key cog to the Red & Gold’s defensive line the rest of the way.
However, the 49ers did not open the window for rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall.
Pearsall has been on IR since being shot in the chest during an attempted armed robbery following the preseason. While he has made substantial progress in his recovery, the 49ers will wait at least another week before getting him back on the practice field. Shanahan reiterated that the rookie is ‘really close’ to being ready to return to football.
