Kyle Shanahan listed several players who are day-to-day, confirmed Christian McCaffrey’s injury, and Kalia Davis’s near return
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided a handful of injury updates on a conference call on Monday afternoon. The following players are day-to-day:
WR Jacob Cowing (shoulder)
DT Jordan Elliott (knee)
WR Chris Conley (oblique)
FB Kyle Juszczyk (shoulder)
LB Fred Warner (ankle)
TE George Kittle (ribs)
Warner was the worry, but Shanahan said anybody listed day-to-day is a win: “We definitely feel better when it says day-to-day.”
Warner avoided the dreaded high-ankle sprain. Kyle said that Fred was sore coming into the facility on Monday, but he has a chance to heal up this week and should be good to go for Week 5’s matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
Shanahan confirmed that Christian McCaffrey has tendonitis in both legs: “There was a time he’s had it in both. I think it started in one, was overcompensated, and it went to the other. But mainly one of them has been bothering him, but he’s had it in both.”
Shanahan has not spoken to McCaffrey about how he’s feeling.
Shanahan has not decided whether the team will open Ricky Pearsall’s practice window. They will decide that here in the next couple of days. Here
“We’ll see when he gets back to practice, and we’ll judge by that. I really don’t make any judgments until they go through the practice week.”
Shanahan said he gets excited when players come off the Injured Reserve but has to see them firsthand before making any decisions.
Shanahan said, “There’s a good chance” the 49ers open DT Kalia Davis’s practice window this week. Shanahan said Davis is close to returning and that he’d be surprised if Davis did not return this week.
Davis will add much-needed depth along the defensive line, with Elliott potentially sidelined and the obvious loss of Javon Hargrave.
