The Dallas Cowboys squeezed past the New York Giants 20-15 at MetLife Stadium to snap a two-game losing streak, but Micah Parsons isn’t happy.
With the Cowboys again having their way with the Giants under Dak Prescott’s tenure (12-2), that still isn’t enough for Parsons.
In what was nearly a “must-win” for Dallas, it managed to do enough in what was a gritty and scrappy performance.
But Micah is seemingly fed up with the close wins.
“Winning is important, it’s hard to do in this league, so edging a 20-15 win, it wasn’t perfect,” Parsons said. “I’m done scraping by, I don’t want to scrap by no more, I want legit wins, I want to win consistently.”
Micah might have a short-term memory here.
Dallas’ Week 1 win against the Cleveland Browns was a dominating one in a 33-17 win.
Last season, the Cowboys won nine games by double digits and held teams to 20 or fewer points 11 times. That’s a lot of “dominating wins.”
Plus, we think three straight seasons of 12-5 is the definition of “winning consistently.”
But are Micah’s comments a reflection of a thought that his team “should” have dismantled the Giants in the same fashion it did last season? A 40-0 win in Week 1 and a 49-17 win in Week 10.
For the moment, though, all Micah can do about this is talk … and coach up teammates. His high ankle sprain makes it unlikely he’ll play next week at Pittsburgh. So all his efforts right now are about rehab (seeing if this can be something less than, say, a month-long issue) not about the scoreboard.
But we get what he’s saying. In reality, it doesn’t feel like Dallas is “that” team anymore, and Thursday night’s game was one in which it didn’t matter how the Cowboys won as long as they won.
It appears that even that isn’t good enough for Parsons. And maybe that’s the best thing of all.
