The Kansas City Chiefs’ celebrations of their fourth win of the season were mired by a brutal injury to wide receiver Rashee Rice. The 24-year-old was unable to finish the defending champs’ 17-10 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers after being forced to exit the game in the first quarter.
Rice was carted off the field after a freak collision with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The reigning Super Bowl MVP’s pass was picked off by Chargers cornerback Kristian Fulton. Mahomes attempted to make a tackle on Fulton, which resulted in the Chiefs QB landing on Rice’s right knee. It did not look good.
Rice would not be able to return to the game after the injury. After the win, head coach Andy Reid admitted that he “feels terrible” for his young wideout and that the team is “not expecting the news they’d want” once they get the results of Rice’s MRI on Monday.
Rice’s girlfriend, Dacoda Nichole Jones, took to Instagram to share her reaction to the heartbreaking development. Jones did not have anything to say save for praying hands and a heart emoji on an all-black background.
While Jones did not specify what her post was about, it would probably be safe to assume that this is in reference to Rice’s injury and that, like the Chiefs, the wide receiver’s family is also hoping for the best here as they await news on this unfortunate turn of events.
Rice and Jones share two kids together, Cassai (born in 2021) and a seven-month baby boy.
