METAIRIE, La. (BRPROUD) – The offensive line was the biggest question mark for the Saints headed into the season with three new starters. After week one, those questions are gone after dominating the line of scrimmage against the Panthers, leading to 180 yards on the ground.
They also kept quarterback Derek Carr mostly clean. He was the least-pressured quarterback in the league in all of Week 1.
The Saints’ offensive line gets an even bigger test with Dallas. The Cowboys led the NFL in quarterback pressures in week one and they sacked Cleveland quarterback Deshaun Watson six times.
The star-studded Dallas defense is led by linebacker Micah Parsons, who leads the NFL in quarterback pressures. The Saints voiced a lot of respect for Parsons, even comparing him to one of the greatest defensive players in recent years.
“Micah Parsons, I think is a dominant player regardless of position,” Saints head coach Dennis Allen said. “One of if not the best defensive player in our league. So, he’s a guy that we’re going to have to pay attention to, understand where he’s at.”
“He’s one of the better football players I’ve ever seen in my life,” Derek Carr, Saints quarterback, said. “The way that he can do all those different things. You turn on the tape and he reminds me of Von Miller all those years that me and Von were battling two times a year. He really reminds me of Von with that explosiveness, that get off, his understanding of what they’re trying to do to him and those kind of things. He can literally play anywhere he wants on a defense. It’s really impressive. ”
The Saints offensive line could see some changes this week due to a back injury to left tackle Taliese Fuaga. It was an injury that popped up at the end of training camp. Fuaga was limited in practice Wednesday and did not participate on Thursday.
