Miami Heat Expected To Sign Former Villanova Guard

The Miami Heat made two procedure roster moves on Thursday by signing and waiving Bryson Warren and Malik Williams. Ira Winderman of The South Florida Sun Sentinel is reporting that the Heat will sign former Villanova Wildcats guard Caleb Daniels in the coming days. Daniels’ deal is expected to be an Exhibit 10 deal.

All part of the team simultaneously building a roster for the Heat and another for its G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

So with Warren and Williams, the Heat were able to extend up to the maximum guarantee of $77,500 for an Exhibit 10 contract as a means of bolstering the Skyforce roster, with both now positioned to earn in excess of $100,000 this season, when counting actual G League salary.

A similar move is expected in short order with Caleb Daniels, the prospect out of Villanova who has drawn notice the past two summer leagues with the Heat, as well as last season with the Skyforce.

Miami Heat Expected To Sign Young Free Agent Guard

Daniels is a big guard known for his 3-point shooting and toughness, though he struggled offensively for Sioux Falls last season. Daniels averaged 12.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 47 appearances, including 24 starts. He compiled two double-doubles and made 1.6 treys a game while shooting 42.8/36.8/84.1%. He also had a difficult Summer League with the Heat.

If Daniels does indeed sign with the Heat and is waived as expected, SkyForce’s roster will mainly consist of Heat-associated players. Currently, Daniels, Warren, and Williams are slated to be Heat affiliate players for the SkyForce.

Warren, 19, went undrafted in 2024 after appearing in 27 games for the SkyForce last season. The 6-3 guard averaged 6.9 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.6 rebounds, though he did make 1.4 treys while shooting 37.8/32.5/80.0%.

Williams played for the SkyForce last year, though he did spend the last few days of the season with the Toronto Raptors, appearing in seven games, including two starts. The 6-11 athletic center earned the opportunity with the Raptors after a strong G-League campaign, during which he produced 13 double-doubles, did an excellent job on the glass, and protected the rim well.

At least Four Other Heat Affiliate Players Are Expected To Join Sioux Falls.

Miami has 19 players on its rosters. However, Winderman believes that the Heat will carry just 14, all 14 players are on fully guaranteed contracts,  on its opening-day roster as they are just $1.2 million below the second apron.

That means that the Heat’s two players on existing training camp players, Zyon Pullin and Isaiah Stevens, will also likely end up at Sioux Falls. Pullin went undrafted in 2024 out of Florida and initially signed a two-way deal with the Heat, but he was waived in July and then agreed to an Exhibit 10 deal as he really didn’t do much during Summer League.

Meanwhile, Stevens went undrafted out of Colorado State in 2024. The 23-year-old point guard had an impressive Summer League, as he was highly efficient and did an excellent job distributing the ball. He averaged 8.7 points, 6.8 assists, and 2.3 turnovers with a shooting slash line of 63.4/66.7/88.9% while making 1.8 triples.

Miami’s two-way players Josh Christopher, Dru Smith, and Keshad Johnson will also spend time in Sioux Falls. Additionally, Winderman said that the Heat’s 2024 second pick Pelle Larsson and former two-way player Alondes Williams could also see time with the SkyForce. Williams remains a free agent, though the SkyForce owns his G-League rights.
