Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Releases Statement Ahead Of Week 4 Matchup Vs. Chargers

The Kansas City Chiefs are going into their week four matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers with eyes on going 4-0.  Los Angeles is looking to get back in the win column after suffering their first loss of the season last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Patrick Mahomes is once again one of the favorites to win the NFL MVP award this year, and he had something to say this week before he heads to Los Angeles.

Rice has been a prominent feature of Mahomes’ offense while Kelce has remained on the back burner. Among his 29 targets, he has caught 24 of them for 288 yards and two touchdowns.  However, Mahomes expects a change soon:

Mahomes predicted that defenses will eventually work harder to contain Rice, at which point Kelce will “eat” in more one-on-one matchups. He also praised his longtime tight end for affecting the game however he can despite not receiving his usual target share.

“You just want to win at the end of the day. He’s doing a great job of being a leader on the team, playing hard, doing whatever he can to make an impact in the game,” Mahomes said.

“When you do that in this league, usually good things come, and I’m excited for him to go out there and make an impact receiving the ball as well.”

Andy Reid also insisted that Kelce will be “fine,” and the All-Pro echoed Mahomes’ points about putting the team during his New Heights podcast.

“I’m not getting caught up in getting the targets and all that,” Kelce said. “I just want to have a successful offense. And I think Pat’s doing a great job of finding the open guy and making the right decisions right now.”

It will be interesting to see how long/when Mahomes is able to get Kelce involved.  These are Kansas City’s next five games:
