The Miami-Dade police officer who was shown grabbing Tyreek Hill from his car, forcing him to the ground, and placing him in handcuffs was the recipient of a donation nearly amounting to $25,000 a few years ago.
Hill was the talk of the sports world after his brush with the law on Sunday, with the Miami Dolphins wide receiver stopped and detained by police while trying to get to Hard Rock Stadium for his team’s opening game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Bodycam footage showed a particularly aggressive officer, who has since been identified as Danny Torres, manhandling the Pro Bowler after he rolled his window up while another officer was speaking to him.
Torres is understood to have been placed on administrative leave after the incident, though it’s also been reported that he’s resumed working and is being kept on desk duty.
Various details of Torres’ life have come to light since Sunday, with a GoFundMe page showing he received $24,238 surfacing online in the wake of it all.

It’s also been revealed that Torres has been suspended six times in his 26 years as a police officer while he has been hit with written reprimands on four occasions.
On a positive note, the veteran was awarded for professionalism in 2023 and has received commendations for his dedication to duty, as well as his prudent driving.
Tyreek Hill has since called on the department to fire Torres, with his camp reportedly rejecting an apology from the officer.
