Fans Baffled by ‘Awful’ Patrick Mahomes Social Media Post

The Kansas City Chiefs have had a rollercoaster beginning to their 2024 regular season. Despite an undefeated 3-0 record entering Week 4, offensive stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have been underwhelming on the stat sheet.

Through three games, Kelce has been limited to eight catches for 69 yards while Mahomes, the three-time Super Bowl MVP, is on pace for his first sub-4,000-yard season, 28 touchdowns and 22 interceptions. He set a career-high with 14 picks last season.

On Wednesday, NFL aggregator account Dov Kleiman reposted some of Mahomes’ recent statistics.

“Awful: #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has thrown 11 TDs and 9 INTs in his last 8 regular-season games. He has thrown for 300+ yards just one time during that time. (h/t @fbgchase),” the account wrote on X.

Fan reactions were mostly split, still many were baffled over the cherry-picked totals given the 29-year-old’s accolades across his first seven NFL seasons.

That included the original poster, Football Perspective, who wrote back, “To be clear, I didn’t write Awful or say that he was awful. So no h/t for that.”

“I’ll take mediocre stats al day if it means being clutch and playing your best when it matters most. Playoffs. Super Bowl,” one fan said.

“Still winning games 🤷‍♂️” echoed another fan.

“He doesn’t care about the regular season anymore,” another accused.

“In-between those games he won three road playoff games and got his third super bowl ring and threw 6 TDs with 1 INT, throwing for more than 1,000 yards with a 69% completion rate so…I’d say he did ok,” someone else declared.

Mahomes and company will need to make adjustments to stay on course in 2024, but short-term struggles don’t take away from his resume: Two MVP awards, six Pro Bowls, two All-Pro selections, three Super Bowl titles and 2018 Offensive Player of the Year honors.

He’ll look to bounce back with a big road performance against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. He’s 8-2 in 10 career matchups with a 26-to-6 interception ratio.
