Steph Curry is used to facing off against Russell Westbrook on the court but with the NBA offseason in full swing, the Golden State Warriors guard showed some support for his counterpart’s latest project on social media.

On Monday, Westbrook unveiled the expanded Westbrook Academy campus located in South Gate, Los Angeles and Curry was one of the first to pay tribute to the Southern California native.

In his latest Instagram story, Curry posted an image of the former MVP at the Westbrook Academy event and shared a message of support for Russell and his wife Nina.

“Congrats @russwest44 @ninawestbrook and the whole family!”

Earlier in the day, Westbrook had posted a short clip of him cutting the ribbon at the unveiling and a collection of photos on his Instagram account. The post was captioned:

“LEGACY! Think… WHYNOT? Grateful and blessed beyond words. For the inner city. – The Brodie

Other NBA players like Dejounte Murray, Victor Oladipo and Kent Bazemore also reached out to Westbrook on Instagram after the news broke.

The Westbrook Academy offers classes from 6th grade to 12th grade and will teach over 400 students. The initiative was a partnership between Westbrook’s Why Not? Foundation and the LA Promise Fund.

After stints with the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, Westbrook recently signed a two-year contract with the Denver Nuggets. He is set to begin his 17th year in the NBA and has played in 1284 regular season games over that stretch.

Westbrook’s playing career in Los Angeles may not have panned out the way he had hoped, but the NBA star has left a lasting impact on the community.

The 2024-25 season will be exciting with plenty of teams in the picture for the prestigious NBA title. Steph Curry’s Warriors and Russell Westbrook’s Nuggets will compete in the Western Conference and will start the year as two of the favorites in the West.

On an individual basis, Curry and Westbrook are also on track to reach historic milestones.

Steph Curry is the league’s all-time leader in three-pointers with 3,747. He is now just 253 away from becoming the first player to record 4,000 three-pointers. Last season, the sharpshooting guard drilled 357 threes over the course of the regular season.

Westbrook has been one of the league’s most dominant players over the last decade and will be looking to make a splash in Denver. The 2017 MVP currently holds the NBA record for triple-doubles with a whopping 199 over his career. One more, and he will reach the monumental 200 figure.
