REPORT: Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers, who has been dealing with a shoulder issue, will not require surgery and anticipates being prepared for spring training

Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers said on Sunday that he won’t need surgery and expects to be ready for spring training. This comes a day after he was placed on the 10-day injured list due to left shoulder inflammation.

Devers, who will turn 28 on October 24, mentioned that his shoulders, especially the left one, have been bothering him since spring training.

He signed a 10-year contract with the Red Sox in January 2023 worth $313.5 million. This season, he batted .272 with 28 home runs and 83 RBIs in 138 games. As a three-time All-Star, he leads American League third basemen with 12 errors.

“It never stopped hurting me and I never felt like myself this year,” Devers said through a team translator after Boston won 8-1 against the Minnesota Twins in the first game of a doubleheader.

“Obviously, it was good news that it was nothing serious and I just need to get ready for next year,” Devers added.

He is expected to stay with the team for a while and will work on a recovery program for his shoulders when he returns home to the Dominican Republic.

“I believe I’ll be at full strength for spring training,” he said.

Devers left Friday night’s game against the Minnesota Twins, which went 12 innings, after going 1 for 4 with a walk and three strikeouts.
