Patrick Mahomes made history as the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Atlanta Falcons 22-17 on Sunday.
The star quarterback picked up his 77th career win, passing Tom Brady and Roger Staubach for the most quarterback victories after 100 starts. Given the Chiefs’ success throughout Mahomes’ career, the record shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
Mahomes took over as the Chiefs’ starter in 2018 and immediately started collecting wins. He led Kansas City to a 12-4 record that year and has since won 10 or more games every season. Last year’s 11 regular-season wins were the lowest Mahomes has produced as a starter, though he still managed to lead the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory.
Passing legends like Staubach and Brady is no small feat for Mahomes. Staubach won a pair of Super Bowls in the 1970s while Brady totaled seven during his playing days. Mahomes was already well on his way to being among the league’s best to ever do it, and Sunday marked another accomplishment.
But Mahomes can’t spend too much time celebrating the new accomplishment. He and the Chiefs are off to a 3-0 start this year and will look to remain undefeated against the Los Angeles Chargers next week.
