Enter Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk is an incredible receiver in his own right and recently signed a four-year $120 million contract to become the go-to guy for the 49ers. But here’s the thing – watching Jennings on Sunday, it’s interesting to think if the team made the right decision, extending his contract. They could have offered more for Jennings and locked him down for future seasons, invested much less, or even moved on from Aiyuk.

Jennings has generally impressed us with his ability to make tough catches. Hence his nickname, “3rd and Jauan”. Converting short gains has been a staple for him and always could stretch the field into big plays. All of this proves that he’s more than capable of being a starter on the 49ers receiving corp. He doesn’t merely catch passes; he catches passes with passion, desire, and intensity that says, “I belong.”
The 49ers may have lost the game, but they might have discovered something far more valuable. If Sunday’s performance is any indication, Jauan Jennings is the player they should’ve paid.
