There’s plenty of intrigue to fill AT&T Stadium Sunday.
Two teams – the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys – with Super Bowl hopes; each desperate for an early-season victory. Last year’s MVP (Lamar Jackson) vs. the runner-up (Dak Prescott). And, historically and statistically speaking, the toughest opponent for the Cowboys to beat in their 64-season history.
But for quirky trends – and more ominous news for Cowboys fans – check this out: During his seven-year career Jackson is an uncanny 20-1 vs. NFC teams.
Lamar’s domination includes going 1-0 against the Cowboys with a 34-17 win in 2020. He’s 2-0 against the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and 1-0 against the Atlanta Falcons, Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers.
He also has a win over the New York Giants, which is the only team to beat him with the Ravens, 24-20 in 2022.
So dominant were Jackson and the Ravens over the NFC last season that they soundly beat the conference’s championship game teams. Baltimore walloped both the Lions (38-6) and 49ers (33-19).
After getting embarrassed last week by the Saints and losing their last two games in Arlington by a combined 41 points, the Cowboys have enough to worry about. But like it or not, they’re also defending the NFC’s honor against Lamar and the AFC’s biggest bully.
