The 10 Sickest Cars The Rock Has Ever Driven In Movies

Dwayne Johnson, more commonly referred to by his stage name The Rock, is an American-Canadian actor that ventured into acting after an 8-year stint on the World Wrestling Federation circuit as a professional wrestler. He has starred in nearly 36 movies over an 18-year career and is one of the highest-grossing actors of all time; with his movies having made $10 billion worldwide.

The Rock is a veritable human tower of hard-packed muscle, standing at almost 2 meters tall. He will occasionally use a sedan or some other small car for his movies but, given his large frame, it is not surprising that he usually favors larger vehicles. Some of them are regular production wheels like the Ford F150 but you are just as likely to find him smashing his way through his enemies in a custom-made machine or hard-core military vehicles.

In the movie, ‘Faster’, Dwayne Johnson drove this classic muscle car to make a getaway with cops hot on his tail. The scene had all you could expect from a chase scene – lots of burning rubber, screaming engines, and wild maneuvers. The Pontiac GTO was a true muscle car; it ticked off all the boxes including powerful engine, loads of horsepower, quick-shifting manual transmission, and classic muscle car looks. Dwayne doesn’t usually sit in ‘regular-sized’ cars but he looked right at home in this one.

9 Ford Bronco Concept In ‘Rampage’

Dwayne Johnson is one of the most popular Ford ambassadors so when he requested the use of the Ford bronco Concept in his ‘2018 Rampage’ movie, the Ford Execs were only too happy to oblige. The car featured in the movie was a concept first shown at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. It had quite a bit of styling elements from the original Ford Bronco. Loyal fans of the car will no doubt be delighted to learn that there will be a modern production Ford Bronco in the near future.

8 MAN KAT1 In ‘Fast And Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw’

This film is one of the spin-offs from the Fast and Furious franchise and true to form, it packs quite a bit of high-octane drama. One involved Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson commandeering a MAN KAT1 heavy-duty vehicle which he then used to bash his way out of a secure facility, swatting aside 2 Land Rovers in the process. The MAN KAT1 is an off-road truck developed originally for use in the German Army and it’s not hard to see why the Rock favored this as a battering ram to execute his escape.

7 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle In ‘Faster’

This hard-core muscle car enjoyed significant screen time in the 2010 movie. It was the Dwayne Johnson’s ride of choice as he hunted down the bad guys who had wronged him. The 1970 Chevelle SS suited his character perfectly too – a prison-hardened guy out for revenge. This ultimate American Muscle car was powered by a 450hp engine that pumped out 500 pound-feet of torque. There were few equals in its prime and it is still considered a muscle car legend even today.

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is a proper mid-size truck with an impressive 7,650 pounds towing capacity and the ruggedness to take on most off-road adventures with ease. The Gladiator is powered by a 285hp 3.6-liter V6 engine mated to a 6-speed manual or optional 8-speed automatic transmission. In the movie, the Gladiator didn’t feature in any hair-raising action scene but was used by the Rock as he embarked on a leisurely cruise to his family home with Luke Shaw, the other main character in the film.

5 Terradyne Gurkha In ‘Fast Five’

Fast Five was The Rock’s debut stage in the Fast and Furious franchise. There, he played a tough Diplomatic Security Service agent tasked with arresting Dom and his crew. His ‘Official’ car was, unsurprisingly, one as formidable as the actor himself – the Terradyne Gurkha LAPV. This Canadian armored tactical vehicle, based on a Ford F-450 or F-550 platform, will send the famous Hummer scampering for safety. Even the civilian version is as hardcore as it gets, with armor upgrades and military trim on all windows.

4 Ice Ram In ‘Fast And Furious 8’

The eight installment of the Fast and Furious movies featured a pretty special car used by The Rock as he waged war on his enemies. The Ice Ram – essentially a Dodge RAM truck with its tires stripped off and replaced by custom sprockets that operate specially designed belts. The suspension of the vehicle had to be strengthened to bear the extra load before the oddity was unleashed on the movie set. The Ice Ram also made an appearance at the 2016 SEMA event where fans were able to examine the contraption up close.

It’s hard to miss the imposing size of the Chevrolet Suburban. At almost 19 feet long, it’s one of the largest full-sized SUVs on the market. In America, it is the vehicle of choice for service departments most notably the FBI and Secret Service – for obvious reasons. The Suburban has three rows of seats and loads of cargo space that can be customized and used to carry all kinds of stuff. The 5.3-liter V8 engine is not exactly a pushover too, capable of at least 355hp.

2 Navistar Defense MXT Truck In ‘Fast and Furious 6’

The Navistar Defense MXT is an American military truck available in different configurations to suit a variety of needs. It may not be fast; it weighs over 10,000kg and only has a 340hp V8 engine to haul that mass around. However, its formidable presence is undeniable and one that The Rock exploited in the movie. The truck is about 8 feet tall and has almost the same dimension for its width. It almost looks like it’s staring down its opposition and with The Rock behind the wheel, you might want to stand aside as it approaches.

1 Ford F150 In ‘San Andreas’

When he’s not on set, the iconic Ford F-150 is one of The Rock’s favorite rides and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he was spotted behind the wheels of one in one of his movies. In San Andreas, he plays a los Angeles Fire Dept Helicopter Rescue pilot and faces a race against time, from Los Angeles to San Francisco, to save his daughter before she is killed by a massive earthquake. Part of the journey is undertaken in the Ford F150, with a grim-faced and determined Dwayne Johnson behind the wheel.
