Shohei Ohtani went 3-for-4 on the night with two RBIs, a stolen base and a home run to lift him to 52/52. Teoscar Hernadez and Andy Pages also hit home runs in the 6-4 Dodgers win.
The Dodgers (92-62) opened their final regular homestand with a 6-4 win over the Rockies (59-95) Friday night at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers used eight pitchers in the bullpen game, but the pen got run support from the Dodgers’ offense incuding a go-ahead Shoehi Ohtani home run in the fifth.
Ohtani returned home to a warm welcome and M.V.P. chants as he tipped his hat in thanks to the standing ovation. The otherworldy player went 3-for-4 on the night and reached the 52/52 mark. Another night, another historic record for the Dodgers’ designated hitter.
The final regular season homestand started out with a bang for the Dodgers. Mookie Betts woke everyone up in the first inning when he crashed into the wall to rob Charlie Blackmon of extra bases. Blackmon, confused, rounded the bases as if he hit a home run.
With some help from Mookie, Ryan Brasier did his job as opener and retired the top of the first in order.
Shohei Ohtani received a much-deserved standing ovation before his first at-bat.
Dave Roberts very well could have had Brasier pitch one more inning after making only 12 pitches in the first. Instead, Joe Kelly came in. Before I knew it, the Rockies had the bases loaded and nobody out.
The Rockies subsequently took the first lead of the night on a Hunter Goodman scoring groudout. Kelly made 29 pitches and walked two in the second, but he was able to limit the damage to one run with two strikeouts in the frame.
Brusdar Graterol only needed nine pitches in the third, and he also pitched a scoreless fourth inning.
Kyle Freeland kept the Dodgers’ offense to a minimum over four shutout innings.
Charlie Blackmon didn’t miss in his third at-bat versus Daniel Hudson in the fifth. The long-time Rockie hit a solo home run to extend Colorado’s lead to two.
The Dodgers got on the board in the bottom half of the frame with a Andy Pages solo home run.
Ohtani continued his march toward the M.V.P. award with a towering two-run home run to flip the script and give the Dodgers a 3-2 lead.
Alex Vesia surrendered a two-out home run to Sam Hillard to tie the game at three runs apiece in the sixth.
The seesaw continued to rock. Teoscar Hernandez crushed a Freeland slder for a huge home run to give the Dodgers back the lead.
Mookie Betts’ sac fly and another Teoscar Hernandez RBI added another two runs to their lead in the home half of the seventh.
Michael Toglia homered off Michael Kopech in the top of the ninth, but Betts fittingly made the final out against the wall in right field to seal the 6-4 win for the Dodgers .
