The Golden State Warriors need a bit more juice to their roster after the departure of franchise legend, Klay Thompson, over the summer. They tried to make a move for Paul George happen but could not pull it off.
On the other hand, Jimmy Butler’s future with the Miami Heat is in serious doubt. He can become a free agent next summer if he opts out of his 2025-26 player option.
Butler would be expected to do that if the Heat do not end up giving him an extension by that point in time. So, it is easy to see why the 35-year-old has been linked with a move to the Warriors lately.
There is believed to be some level of interest in Butler on the part of the Warriors. That makes sense when you consider their need for some top-level talent to make the most out of the remainder of Stephen Curry’s prime.
On paper, it makes a ton of sense. In fact, in the article ‘Best and Worst Landing Spots for NBA’s Top Trade Targets’ on Bleacher Report, Andy Bailey named the Warriors as the best spot for Butler.
Both Curry and Butler are in their mid-30s. So, the Championship window will be short. But the Warriors, who have won four rings over the past decade, should be willing to take that risk to go on another run for the mountaintop with their legendary number 30.
Of course, it is all hypothetical at the moment. It is unclear what the Heat’s plans are regarding Butler.
In the past, we have seen that the Heat are not afraid to part with superstars if they feel the timing is right. So, is Butler’s time in South Beach coming to an end? Could he end up in the Bay Area next? We shall find out soon.
