The Dallas Cowboys are focused on bouncing back at home in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens. Last week, they were embarrassed at AT&T Stadium by the New Orleans Saints 44-19 but that’s in the rearview mirror now.
The Cowboys will have their hands full going against an explosive Ravens offense. Baltimore ranks first in the league in total yards (417.5), fourth in passing yards (249.5), and seventh in rushing yards (168).
The defense will have their hands full but on Wednesday, a struggling defender was seen leaving the practice field with some sort of injury.
Cowboys News: Mazi Smith Leaves Wednesday’s Practice
In a picture taken by David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, defensive tackle Mazi Smith can be seen walking into the building with head athletic trainer Jim Maurer.
Although there isn’t any news on what the injury is, that isn’t good news for Smith. The Michigan product struggled immensely as a rookie in 2023 and hasn’t gotten off to a good start this season.
On 56 total snaps, Smith has a 28.9 overall grade according to PFF. This is a brutal start for the 23-year-old who was a no-show last year. He finished with just 13 total tackles and three tackles for loss. Now in 2024, Smith has failed to record a single stat through two games.
Mike Zimmer took over as the defensive coordinator in Dallas this campaign and Smith isn’t making a positive impression so far.
We’ll have to wait and see the severity of his injury but regardless, Smith needs to step it up, or his time in Dallas won’t be very long.
