Patrick Mahomes is considered by many to be one of the most skilled players in the history of the game, but one Hall of Fame quarterback isn’t buying it.
In a recent interview with Alec Lewis of the The Athletic, legendary Minnesota Vikings quarterback Fran Tarkenton talked about the Kansas City Chiefs field general, and said that he would be doing the same things Mahomes is if he was playing.
“I would be more successful today,” Tarkenton said. “Because the field is spread out more. I watch Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes doesn’t do anything I didn’t do. Nothing… I was just the first one who did it… with a fullback and two halfbacks!”
Tarkenton has the accolades to back up his talk at first glance, but then you realize that Mahomes has the same amount of Super Bowl wins, and more MVP awards.
The Vikings legend is 14th on the all-time passing yards list and is seventh all-time in rushing yards for a quarterback. He is considered one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks ever, and that play style could have translated to today.
With all of that being said, it is hard to imagine that he would be matching the stuff that Mahomes is doing if he played in today’s game.
