Patrick Mahomes Shares His Thoughts on the Chiefs’ Recent Free Agent Signing

Kansas City Chiefs superstar and three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes weighed in on the team’s latest free agent acquisition following the placement of running back Isiah Pacheco on Injured Reserve due to a fractured fibula.

Mahomes’s opinion carries significant weight, especially regarding the signing of his former teammate, Kareem Hunt. Both players were drafted in the same class, and after a controversial departure from the Chiefs, Hunt spent the last five seasons with the Cleveland Browns.

Reflecting on Hunt’s return to the team after being away since 2018, Mahomes stated, “Kareem was a close friend of mine while he was here; he even came to my wedding. He’s had a good career in Cleveland, and he’s grown as a person. I’m glad to have him back now.”

He added, “I gave him a high-five in the huddle when I saw him. Everyone has friends who make mistakes, but at the same time, you want to make the person better. I think you’ve seen that with Kareem.”

Mahomes embodies the definition of a leader, a quality he has demonstrated since entering the league. In 2018, Kareem Hunt played all 16 games, rushing for 1,327 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns, making him a key component of the Chiefs’ offense and a crucial piece for the future.

However, six seasons ago, Hunt was released after a video surfaced showing him shoving and kicking a woman outside his residence. Following this incident, he faced a suspension from the NFL.

Fast forward to this week, he has signed back with the Kansas City Chiefs, with the team expressing confidence that he has matured significantly since his departure, and he expected to factor into the offense alongside rookie Carson Steele and veteran Samaje Perine.
