Tyreek Hill will be without his starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for at least a month as the Miami Dolphins placed him on the IR this week. The team initially said they would stick with who they have in the building while Tua tried to make his return, but they had a surprising visitor at camp today.

Former MVP Cam Newton was in attendance at the Dolphins practice and that has many fans talking thinking Newton may sign with the team.Advertisement

It appears that Hill has already crossed off Newton as the replacement for the starting quarterback job in Miami while Tua is out on the IR.

Miami originally planned on going with their backupSkylar Thompson as the starter for the next month, but then they signed former pro bowler Tyler Huntley to join the QB room as well. On Wednesday, Cam Newton was reportedly at the Dolphins practice, and that has led many to think they may be interested in bringing him in as well.

While Hill did not confirm or deny that Newton was actually at the Dolphins practice facility, he expressed that he clearly is not interested in catching passes from the former MVP.

As of Wednesday, there is no concrete evidence that Newton and the Dolphins have anything brewing while Tua will be out for a prolonged period. This quote from Tyreek however, probably doesn’t help the chances of Miami and Newton getting anything done.

Cam is also far from what he once was, and has not shown any sign of talent since 2021. Hill could have taken this dig at Newton because of what the former quarterback said on his podcast about Hill’s police interaction that happened in week 1.

Newton said that Hill was not complicit with the officers and that he was to blame for the altercation that went down.

It appears that Miami fans on social media agree with Hill, and are not looking for a washed veteran to take over the team as the season is just getting underway. If Cam was in his prime it would be fascinating to think about what he could do with Hill, but based on all of the above, it seems highly doubtful that Newton would get an offer from Miami.
