San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa made a statement after Sunday’s win over the Dallas Cowboys. The 27-year-old donned a “Make America Great Again” hat and crashed his teammates’ postgame interview, pointing to his hat to emphasize his support of former President Donald Trump.
Bosa did not relay any other message on the field as offensive players Brock Purdy, Isaac Guerendo and George Kittle spoke with NBC’s Melissa Stark. The moment was captured on the live broadcast, but NBC edited Bosa out of the interview later.
In his own postgame press conference, the All-Pro defender declined to elaborate on his intended message.
“I’m not going to talk too much about it, but I think that it’s an important time,” Bosa said. He removed the “Make America Great Again” hat before the press conference, replacing it with one marked with “SF” for San Francisco.
Bosa has occasionally expressed conservative beliefs since starting his collegiate career at Ohio State in 2016. In a since-deleted social media post, the Florida native called former quarterback Colin Kaepernick a “clown” for kneeling during the national anthem.
The 49ers’ star isn’t the only defensive lineman rocking a Trump cap in the lead-up to the presidential election. Georgia senior Nazir Stackhouse, a pass rusher for the Bulldogs, sported a “Make America Great Again” hat while attending a Turning Point USA rally over the weekend, according to OutKick.
A TikTok clip from one attendee shows Stackhouse asking conservative commentator Charlie Kirk for a hat to give to coach Kirby Smart.
