The Dallas Cowboys were atrocious on Sunday versus the Detroit Lions.
On defense, the Cowboys gave up 492 yards of offense, including 184 rushing yards, while allowing 47 points. On offense, Dak Prescott’s unit gave up five turnovers and exited the game without a touchdown.
What’s the message in the locker room after such an outing? All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb had the answer postgame.
“The season doesn’t end in six weeks, I will say that,” Lamb said when asked the message to the team following the loss. “This bye week, we have to use it to be better. We have a lot cluster halls, a lot of meetings, a lot of things we’ve got to clean up and when we come back, we’re going to be ready to work.”
The urgency couldn’t be any higher for the Cowboys, who will travel to face the the San Francisco 49ers following their bye week. At 3-3, Dallas’ schedule doesn’t get any easier with the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans, and Washington Commanders complete their next five games.
Jerry Jones has put the pressure on the players after claiming the Cowboys won’t be making any changes to the coaching staff, meaning the front office will apparently just cross its fingers and ask for improvement.
If you’re looking for a silver lining following the 47-9 loss, there’s this: Last year, the Cowboys offense changed significantly after the bye week. If Mike McCarthy finds a way to fix the offensive production in the red zone, perhaps the 2024 Cowboys’ story could change slightly.
“We gotta score touchdowns in the red zone, we gotta capitalize and continue moving the ball,” Lamb added. “There’s some good (on offense) but there’s a lot more bad (…) we know we’ve got to fix that.”
Lamb caught seven passes for 89 yards but communication issues persisted with he and quarterback Dak Prescott. The latter missed a throw to Lamb in the corner of the end zone and later, Lamb seemed to fail to adjust his route to Prescott’s expectations on a second down.
