The Philadelphia Eagles returned from their bye with a win over the Cleveland Browns and will look to keep the momentum going against the New York Giants in Week 7. Even though there have been bright spots early in the season, there’s still plenty of room for improvement in Philadelphia — especially on the defensive side of the ball.

The Eagles are surrendering 341.4 total yards per game (20th) with 218.4 coming through the air (218.4). With the secondary struggling to stop a nosebleed, general manager Howie Roseman must find ways to beef up the pass defense if winning a Super Bowl is the ultimate goal this season.

The good news for the Eagles is that the perfect player to help with their issues became available.

Eagles News: Titans Release Pro Bowl S Jamal Adams

On Thursday, NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed that the Titans have released veteran safety Jamal Adams. The three-time Pro Bowl defender requested his release after signing a one-year contract with the Titans during the offseason.

Adams, 29, played three games with one start for the Titans this season. He failed to carve out a role for himself, though, as he tallied only two solo tackles with a miss across 20 defensive snaps.

But just because things didn’t work out in Nashville doesn’t mean the same will happen in Philadelphia.

For starters, the Titans are bottom-feeders this season, which doesn’t motivate players to give their best effort. Although the Eagles haven’t been perfect, they’re still good enough to potentially go on a deep playoff run, and joining a team like that could give Adams a sorely needed kick in the pants.

While he hasn’t made a Pro Bowl or All-Pro team in four years, Adams is still solid enough to give the Eagles a boost. Pro Football Focus has given him a 69.3 run defense grade this season, which could help a Philadelphia unit that ranks eighth-worst against the run (54.7).

Besides, Adams is the perfect type of accomplished player that the Eagles love to add midseason. They acquired safety Kevin Byard (two-time Pro Bowl, two-time All-Pro) from the Titans ahead of last year’s trade deadline and signed linebacker Shaq Leonard (four-time All-Pro, three-time Pro Bowl) just a few weeks after that.

Unlike trading for someone, signing Adams wouldn’t break the bank since he’ll likely only command a cheap deal at this point in the season. If he turns back the clock, the Eagles will have a steal on their hands. If not, they can move on from him once the offseason arrives.

A player with Adams’ resume will likely garner a decent amount of attention, meaning Roseman must act quickly, if he wants to add the multi-time All-Pro safety to the Eagles’ roster.
