The New England Patriots’ $36 million superstar has been identified as a potential match for the Dallas Cowboys in a possible major trade

The New England Patriots understand they are not going anywhere in 2024, while the Dallas Cowboys are uncertain about their future.

As New England is fully in rebuild mode with rookie quarterback Drake Maye, the Cowboys have just given their quarterback, Dak Prescott, a record-setting $240 million contract. Prescott is expected to lead the team, but the offense is still struggling in 2024.

Dallas didn’t make many additions in the offseason besides Prescott, and with a 3-3 record and a -42 point differential, they are facing the consequences of their choices.

The running back position is a significant weakness, as veteran Ezekiel Elliott and young player Rico Dowdle have not been able to establish a strong rushing attack.

With the two teams moving in opposite directions, the Patriots and Cowboys might be in a good position to trade for a running back. Nick Villano from FanSided has suggested that the Cowboys should acquire Patriots star Rhamondre Stevenson before the November 5 trade deadline.

“(Stevenson has) had a fumbling issue that had the Patriots demote him to backup duties,” Villano said. “He still forced his way into the lineup (when healthy), as he’s a much better player than almost anyone on the Patriots’ offense.

The Cowboys could get Stevenson for a decent price since the Pats are struggling and the team hasn’t focused on him after his issues.”

Stevenson, 26, signed a four-year, $36 million contract extension with New England that keeps him under team control until 2028. The Cowboys could keep him for the full length of the deal or opt out after 2026 without any salary cap penalties.

Even though he has fumbled four times, Stevenson has had a solid season in five games, racking up 393 total yards and three touchdowns. He would be a significant improvement over both Elliott and Dowdle, providing the Cowboys with better balance in their offense.

If the Cowboys make this move, it would send a clear message to the league that they recognize their mistakes. Winning should be the priority in Dallas, and the Cowboys need to demonstrate that commitment.
