GREEN BAY (WLUK) — If you’re going to Sunday’s Packers game — don’t wear green and gold.Whiteout conditions are coming to Lambeau Field earlier than usual.
The Green Bay Packers will host the Houston Texansfor their “Winter Warning” game, featuring the debut of an all-new look. The team is asking all fans to wear white to create a “blizzard” effect in the Frozen Tundra to match the team’s new white helmets.
But with temperatures expected to be in the low 70s, the Frozen Tundra will look and feel anything but.
“Although this time of the year, we are already starting to get into fall, so we were kind of thinking it would be the same here,” says Paul Maccoux, a Packers fan from Folsom, California.
Fans are being asked to wear all white to create a “blizzard” look inside the bowl.
“It’s going to be one of those white with red all over by the end of the game, because 77 degrees and Wisconsinites with no sunscreen — we turn red… just being honest,” says John Finnessy, a Packers fan from St. Louis, Missouri.
Maccoux and Finnessy went to Marinette Catholic Central High School.
“My dad had the tickets when they still played at the high school in town,” saysMaccoux. Now living in California, he remains a Packers season ticket holder.
Games at Lambeau Field serve as an annual reunion trip for Maccoux and Finnessy. Even though the game is on Oct. 20, the pair will bedonning white t-shirts and hats instead of white coats and gloves.
“It’s fun to do something different that doesn’t take away from the tradition of the Packers. Being that it’s one game a year and it’s not going to be an all time thing,” says Packers Pro Shop Store Manager Derek Dimmer.
Some fans say they are imagining what the Winter Warning game would look like if it were held later in the season.
“Snow globe. Some snow on the ground. They have to clear off the field during the game, under the lights, is always fun,” says Packers fan Adam Rodriguez.
The Packers will pair their white alternate helmets with white jerseys, pants, socks and shoes.
“I think they could’ve included some of the green and gold that we have in our typical helmets. So the ‘G’ should have the yellow accenting, and we are missing the yellow stripe on there too,” says Rodriguez.
“The new outfit is great. The helmets are cool — they even have a little sparkle to them, if you really zoom in on them. They are really good looking. But as far as the game, we are going to win,” says Finnessy.
