Travis Kelce has fired back at claims he’s not a real Cleveland Guardians fan after his baseball date night with Taylor Swift sparked controversy earlier this week.
Kelce, who was born around 15 miles west of Cleveland, attended the Guardians’ MLB playoff clash with the Yankees in New York on Monday alongside pop-megastar girlfriend Swift.
Though after previously declaring himself a Guards fan, the NFL star drew criticism from the people of Cleveland for not wearing any of the team’s colors or merchandise at Yankee Stadium.
As the Yankees came out on top, he also angered Guards supporters by laughing and joking with Swift and even appearing to take joy in a Juan Soto home run.
However, following Cleveland’s dramatic comeback victory over New York on Thursday night, Kelce stood up for himself and rubbished claims he’s not a ‘real fan in a furious rant on social media.
After three laughing emojis, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end wrote on X: ‘I’ve been a cleveland sports fan my entire life… Make it back to countless amount of games over the years both Guards and Cavs just to enjoy these memories with my friends and family, WIN OR LOSE!!… and I don’t wear Cleveland gear one time [laughing emoji] and all of a sudden I’m not a real fan?!
‘Ask anybody that was in or around that suite on game 1 who I was cheering for, they’ll let you know I was there for the @CleGuardians’.
Kelce could not contain his delight after the Guardians rose from the dead to topple the Yankees on Thursday night in an astonishing American League Championship Series game.
The Yankees were poised to go 3-0 up in the series when back-to-back home runs from Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton helped fire them into a 5-3 lead before the ninth.
Yet just as it seemed New York was on the cusp of the World Series, outfielder Jhonkensy Noel forced an extra-inning after a sensational game-tying home run, before utility player David Fry proved the hero for Cleveland with a walk-off homer.
Kelce wrote on X after the game: ‘Playoff baseball baby!!! @CleGuardians have the city absolutely ROCKIN TONIGHT!! What a game!’
Monday’s Guardians-Yankees game was the second sporting event Travis and Taylor have attended in the Big Apple in recent weeks, having watched the men’s US Open tennis final with friends Patrick and Brittany Mahomes on September 8.
As they took the Bronx by storm again, Kelce was seen wearing a Monogram Craggy Necklace while cozying up with the songstress in their suite.
The statement piece retails at $975 and added flare to an otherwise minimalistic outfit from the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
