The Dallas Cowboys enter their bye week reeling. The Cowboys suffered the worst home defeat in franchise history last Sunday to the Detroit Lions, 47-9. In the loss, Dallas struggled mightily on offense.
Quarterback Dak Prescott played very poorly. But he is not the only one to blame if you listen to Cowboys legend Troy Aikman.
Aikman joined 96.7 The Ticket’s The Musers on Thursday and called out the Cowboys receivers and Lamb particularly.
“I think the routes are terrible. I think they run terrible routes,” said Aikman. “And I’ve thought that beyond this year. I think CeeDee (Lamb) has got to improve in his route running.”
“As a quarterback, if you’re not certain where guys are going to be consistently, it’s hard to play the position. That’s what I see. I see guys lazy coming off the line of scrimmage. Sometimes they run, usually if they do, it’s because they’re anticipating they’re going to get the football on that play, but if they’re not, they don’t.”
The offense is hardly the only unit deserving criticism. The Cowboys’ defense has been a shell of its former self over the last couple of seasons.
But if anyone has earned the right to criticize the Cowboys’ offense, it would be Aikman.
The former UCLA Bruin led Dallas to three Super Bowl titles in the 1990s and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
The Cowboys will look to climb back above .500 next week against the San Francisco 49ers.
