Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes to be without Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown for MONTHS with key receiver set to undergo surgery

The Kansas City Chiefs were dealt a blow Friday when wide receiver Hollywood Brown was placed on injured reserve.

Brown, who signed a one-year, $7million deal with the team in the offseason, will have surgery on his dislocated shoulder joint and was placed on the list Friday afternoon.

The injury was expected to keep Brown out at least the next four weeks but following Friday’s news, head coach Andy Reid revealed that it will be closer to months until the wideout can return to the field.

The premier free-agent acquisition suffered a dislocated sternoclavicular joint that he sustained against the Jaguars on August 10.

The 27-year-old lasted just one snap into his Chiefs preseason debut when he was hurt after catching an 11-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes over the middle and being tackled to the ground by Jaguars cornerback Montaric Brown.

He missed the Chiefs’ opening win over Baltimore Ravens last week but Kansas City’s decision not to put Brown on IR when they cut their roster following training camp was an indication they hoped to get him back sooner rather than later.

The rest of the Chiefs’ wide receiver corps still managed to be productive in the 28-20 victory over Baltimore in Brown’s absence.

Second-year pro Rashee Rice had seven catches for 103 yards, first-round draft pick Xavier Worthy had touchdowns running and receiving, and versatile backup Justin Watson hauled in a 25-yard reception on his only target of the 27-20 victory.

The Chiefs also expect to get more from JuJu Smith-Schuster this week. He was released by the Patriots and had just a couple of practices after re-signing with Kansas City before facing the Ravens, which would have limited the amount of plays that Smith-Schuster would have been able to run.

Brown did not participate in practice Wednesday or Thursday this week ahead of the Chiefs’ Week 2 showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals.
