BREAKING: The Dallas Cowboys Will Trade Trey Lance to the Miami Dolphins..

The Miami Dolphins are in an interesting position in the AFC East. At 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the division, they are not out of it, but a move needs to happen at the quarterback position. Tua Tagovailoa is due back at some point this season (allegedly), but with the NFL Trade Deadline still to come, it is smart for Miami to prepare for any outcome with Tagovailoa.

Trey Lance is an interesting and potentially smart move. Lance has not been on any radar of late, and showed flashes early on in San Francisco. Injuries and unfortunate timing derailed what could have been a promising career with the Niners. Even more, the ascension of Brock Purdy out of nowhere made him expendable. Since being acquired by the Dallas Cowboys, he has become an afterthought. He shouldn’t be, given what San Francisco gave up in draft capital to have his rights in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The trade deadline is particularly helpful to the Dolphins. Miami has been on the launching pad for a few seasons now, and Tua not available makes any serious run with career backup Tyler Huntley an impossibility. As a replacement, Huntley has been, at best, serviceable. He has thrown for 290 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception. His QBR is 22.0. Lance is better, plain, and simple.

With the deadline on November 5, a lot could happen that makes a trade like this happen sooner. He is not going to play in Dallas, so the odds are high Jerry Jones will make a deal.

Lance was making progress with Mike McDaniel in San Francisco. While he is an unfinished product, he provides minimum risk but the potential to blossom into a full-time quarterback as the Niners envisioned. If he does, Miami could end up with the heir apparent to Tagovailoa.
