The Dallas Cowboys are licking their wounds after getting completely torn apart by the Detroit Lions in a humbling 47-9 loss at home. Everyone deserves to be called out for such a horrendous showing, especially a secondary Ben Johnson and the mighty Detroit offense chewed up.
Just one week after finding himself in the national spotlight for shutting down George Pickens in a win against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis was tasked with going up against Amon-Ra St. Brown quite often.
St. Brown had just four catches for 37 yards, but he did catch a touchdown. With the game out of reach instantly, the Lions didn’t need to manufacture touches for their star player. Not only were the two going back and forth verbally during the game, but the rancor managed to permeate over to social media.
St. Brown posted a private Instagram message from Lewis, calling him something that isn’t exactly G-rated. Lewis responded on Twitter, saying the back-and-forth should have stayed “between me and him” and called out St. Brown for leaking a private conversation to the world.
Jourdan Lewis, Amon-Ra St. Brown keep beefing online after Lions crush Cowboys
Irrespective of what language was used and who was in the right after this game, Lewis needs to take a major L after this game. The Cowboys’ defense, once impenetrable at home, has now surrendered 40 points at Jerry World twice in the 2024 season. Mike Zimmer is flailing.
The last team to allow as many points as Dallas in four straight home games was the 1972-73 Houston Oilers, who were coached by a man with a 1-18 career record in Bill Peterson and won two games in two years. Things are grim, and Lewis’ secondary is once again under the microscope.
While the Cowboys have been missing interception master Da’Ron Bland due to injury, playing without him should not be a precursor to some of the worst defensive performances any team has put on display all season long. Dallas, to put it mildly, needs to make wholesale changes,
While Lewis’ verbal sparring can make for some very interesting moments when things are going smoothly, they can end up coming back to bite him when the Cowboys lose. After struggling on the field and still getting into it with St. Brown off of it, Lewis needs to turn the page to next week as soon as possible.
