The Dallas Cowboys owner doubles down after his morning rant on the radio today.
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones is used to being criticized, but we haven’t seen him take this kind of heat before, and this morning, he decided to push back.
All off-season, the Cowboys owner had been criticized for his lack of spending in terms of upping the talent on the roster for this coming season. It became the main critique of Jones in the last few weeks, especially when the Cowboys lost.
It just so happens that on Sunday afternoon, all in attendance at AT&T Stadium would witness the Cowboys lose by the biggest point deficit since Jones had owned the team.
Today, he showed all the listeners of 105.3 The Fan, a Cowboys radio show that he utilizes to get his message out via an interview with the hosts, how he feels about the criticisms of him and the team he governs.
Jones would reassure fans and level with them by saying he too was “sick” after the 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, but he would follow up by letting hosts of the show Shan Shariff and RJ Choppy that he can have their jobs taken from them for negatively reporting on him.
“This is not your job,” he said. “Your job isn’t to let me go over all the reasons that I did something, and I’m sorry that I did it. That’s not your job. I’ll get somebody else to ask these questions. I’m not kidding. You’re not going to figure it out what the team is doing right or wrong. If you are, or any five or 10 like you, you need to come to this (NFL) meeting I’m going to today with 32 teams here; you’re geniuses.”
As news headlines of Jones’ rant on the show this morning began to spread all over social media and sports news shows throughout the day, the Cowboys owner would double down on his words.
The Cowboys owner spoke with Dianna Russini, Senior NFL Insider at The Athletic, after his morning radio show rant.
Love or hate Jones, he seems to be trying to convey that he understands his team’s fan base’s frustration and wants to level with them a bit.
All of that was summed up by him saying, “The wrong ones were doing the questioning. Now, if those had been real fans sitting there or if there had been people that knew what they were talking about, football people, I might have had a different answer.”
Luckily, it was a busy news day, with massive trades going through the league today, so maybe Jones’s tirade may be a thing of the past by tomorrow morning.
