KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Patrick Mahomes newest shoe release is paying homage to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and the Kansas City Monarchs.
Mahomes and adidas collaborated with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum on the Mahomes 2 x NLBM Collection, which celebrates the Monarchs winning the first Negro Leagues World Series title in 1924.
The shoe contains the Monarchs colors on the silhouette and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum logo on the inner sole.
“I’m blessed to have the latest colorway honor the @nlbmuseumkc and all athletes that paved way for myself and so many more. This collection pays tribute to the KC Monarchs and the 100th anniversary of their Negro Leagues World Series title,” Mahomes said on Instagram.
Baseball runs in Mahomes’ blood, with his father playing 11 seasons in the MLB and him playing at Texas Tech and later being drafted to the MLB.
In fact, Mahomes hinted at the partnership when he wore a Monarchs jersey last week before the Chiefs matchup with the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football. He also has frequently worn Monarchs gear throughout his career.
