Donald Trump reveals reason he didn’t like playing football… despite having a similarity to Travis Kelce

Former president Donald Trump has revealed he prefers football from the stands rather than the field.

The Republican nominee, 78, who also opened up on a failed attempt to buy an NFL franchise, lifted the lid on his football-playing days Tuesday.

The presidential hopeful revealed in an interview with ‘Bussin’ With The Boys’ that although he could ‘catch the ball good’ as a tight end like Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, he wasn’t particularly a fan of some elements of America’s favorite sport.

Trump, who is on the campaign trail to retake the White House, admitted that he struggled with the roughness and strength of the game.

‘I didn’t like some guy who was lifting weights all day long and came from a bad neighborhood seeing me… and they were tackling hard,’ he confessed on the popular YouTube show.

Trump was a three sport athlete at New York Military Academy and played on the football team for one year.

Although Trump wasn’t a huge fan of being on the field, his passion for football has stayed with him.

Just last month, he sent the crowd into a frenzy when he attended a college football showdown between Alabama and Georgia.

And the businessman also revealed Tuesday that he almost incorporated his love of the sport into his business empire.

Trump offered $1billion cash for the Bills a decade ago, following the death of founder and Hall of Fame owner Ralph Wilson.

Trump was one of three known finalists in the battle to take charge of Buffalo. A group led by rock star Jon Bon Jovi also showed interest in acquiring the team.

In the end, however, the owners of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres, Terry and Kim Pegula, won the bidding with $1.4bn offer.

When asked how close he came to closing the deal, Trump said: ‘Not close. The owner who got it is a very good man. I think he’s done a great job. Well, he made a great pick – he picked a great quarterback in Josh (Allen).’

The Republican nominee added: ‘I bid $1bn dollars and I put up a letter of credit. I thought I might get it because it was in Buffalo which was having some troubles… and (Pegula) bid $1.4bn – so it’s $400m more.

‘I don’t think it was a very serious run but I gave them a guarantee of a $1bn so that’s always serious, right?’

However, in more recent years, the former president has had a more adversarial relationship with the NFL.

In 2017, during his term in the Oval Office, Trump made inflammatory comments about the league and its players.

Trump called for NFL players to be fired for kneeling during the national anthem during a social media outburst.

The debate surrounding the national anthem led to the White House cancelling Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles’ visit – a tradition for all championship winning teams in the United States – in June 2018.

‘The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow. They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country,’ a statement from Trump at the time read.
