Jerry Jones Just Made Big Decision on Mike McCarthy’s Cowboys Future!

The Dallas Cowboys head coach is set for the rest of the season.

The Dallas Cowboys just suffered one of the most embarrassing home losses in franchise history in Week 6. After being completely dominated by the Lions in all aspects of the field, plenty of questions need to be answered as the Cowboys head to their bye week.

The most pressing of questions is understandably about the coaching staff. Fans and the media naturally started wondering whether Mike McCarthy was on the hot seat after the disappointing 3-3 start with three straight home defeats.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones put an end to these rumors in his Tuesday appearance on 105.3 The Fan, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota. When asked about an in-season coaching change, Jones bluntly said that wasn’t happening.

NFL News: Jerry Jones Ends Coaching Change Rumors

At first glance, this may sound surprising. McCarthy is in the final year of his contract after the Cowboys didn’t give him a contract extension in the offseason. His job security was already questionable after flaming out in the postseason for three straight years. This was considered to be a “prove it” year for McCarthy and it’s clear that he hasn’t been able to do that.

Then why not fire him and give yourself a chance to save this season?

For anyone who has been following the Cowboys and Jerry Jones, the answer is clear. They don’t want to spend the money. They would rather let McCarthy’s contract expire and hire their next head coach in the 2025 offseason.

And what if the Cowboys crash and burn in the meantime? Well, Jerry Jones has shown time and again that he doesn’t care much about that.
